On Saturday 22 August, accredited karate clubs across Western Australia will open their doors to welcome children, teenagers and families who would like to experience karate in a fun, safe and supportive environment.
Whether your child has never stepped onto a dojo floor or is simply looking for a new activity, this free session is designed specifically for beginners.
What is the Come & Try Program?
The Karate WA Statewide Come & Try Program is an initiative designed to introduce more Western Australians to the many benefits of karate.
Participating clubs throughout the state will host beginner sessions where qualified instructors will guide participants through a range of fun and engaging karate activities.
No previous experience is required, and everyone is welcome.
During the session, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn basic karate techniques.
- Participate in fun drills and activities.
- Meet qualified instructors.
- Experience a real karate class.
- Ask questions about ongoing training.
- Learn about the values of respect, discipline and perseverance.

Each participating club will advise the minimum age for their session, however most clubs cater for primary school-aged children and teenagers.
What Happens After I Register?
Once you complete your online registration, Karate WA will allocate you to your nearest participating club based on your location and the availability of sessions.
Prior to the event, you will receive confirmation including:
- The name of your allocated dojo.
- Session time.
- Venue address.
- What to wear.
- What to bring.
- Contact information for the club.
This ensures participants are directed to a convenient location and that clubs are able to provide the best possible experience for everyone attending.
What Should Participants Wear?
No special equipment is required.
Simply wear:
- Comfortable sports clothing.
- A t-shirt.
- Shorts or tracksuit pants.
- A drink bottle.
Participants will train barefoot on the dojo floor, just as regular karate students do.
Do I Need Any Experience?
Absolutely not.
The sessions have been specifically designed for complete beginners.
Qualified instructors will guide participants through every activity, making sure everyone feels comfortable and enjoys their introduction to karate.
Is Karate Safe?
Safety is our highest priority.

There is absolutely no obligation to join a club after attending.
