Karate WA has wrapped up another fantastic 2026 Karate WA League season, following a successful Shotokan Open on Sunday 30 August.
The final League tournament of the year brought together athletes from across Western Australia for a great day of competition, with both Developing and Open divisions providing opportunities for karateka of different ages and experience levels to step onto the tatami.
Congratulations to all athletes who competed throughout the day. We saw some fantastic performances across both Kata and Kumite, along with great sportsmanship, determination and respect between competitors.
The full results from the 2026 Shotokan Open are attached. Congratulations to all of our medal winners and to every athlete who represented their club – whether you walked away with a medal or gained valuable competition experience, we hope you enjoyed being part of the event.
A Huge Thank You to Our Karate Community
Events of this size simply cannot happen without the support of a large number of people working both on and behind the tatami.
Karate WA extends a sincere thank you to our referees and officials, who once again gave their time and expertise to ensure competition was conducted professionally and fairly throughout the day.
Thank you also to our table officials and marshals. These are vital roles in keeping each tatami operating efficiently, getting athletes where they need to be and helping the tournament remain on schedule.
To our coaches, thank you for supporting and guiding your athletes throughout the tournament and for the contribution you continue to make to the development of karate in Western Australia.
We also thank all of our parents and families. From early starts and travel to helping athletes prepare, volunteering and supporting from the sidelines, your contribution to our tournaments and to our athletes is greatly appreciated.
And finally, to our athletes – thank you and congratulations. It has been wonderful to see athletes continue to develop throughout the 2026 League season, with our Developing divisions providing an important introduction to competition and our Open divisions giving athletes the opportunity to continue testing and developing their skills.
The Shotokan Open brings our 2026 Karate WA League season to a close, and Karate WA would like to thank every club, athlete, coach, referee, official, volunteer and family who has supported our League tournaments throughout the year.
The League is about more than medals. It provides an important competition pathway where athletes can gain experience, build confidence, develop their skills and compete alongside karateka from clubs and styles across Western Australia.
While our League season may be finished, Karate WA competition for 2026 isn’t over yet!
