Applications are now open for the Board Youth & Leadership Role within the WAKF.

This role is for someone aged between 18 – 25 years, who will participate in the WAKF Board Meetings ( Non Voting).

This role has been developed to increase the diversity of representation in discussions, to inform and target the
development of strategies to better engage with the age demographic so many karate participants are part of.

This initiative also provides an opportunity for current and future young leaders to become more involved
at the executive and strategic levels of our organisation. This will amongst other things, create a leadership
pathway to ensure karate in Western Australia is well led going into the future.

The Board is interested to receive applications, with an attached resume from people who meet the following
minimum criteria:

  • Aged between 18-25.
  • Current and active member of a WAKF Member club.
  • Demonstrated history in leadership roles.
  • Have an interest in learning about and participating in the strategy and governance of karate Western Australia.
  • Can meet the time commitment to attend Board meetings (approximately 6 meetings per year of 2 hours each plus reading).
  • Be passionate about serving the youth of karate.

This role will also be the Chair of the WAKF Athlete Leadership Group.

See below the  testimony from Mitchell Durham, who was in the role in 2022 and 2023.

“The past 2 years have been extremely insightful and valuable, and the Youth & Leadership role is an amazing initiative to create a stepping stone for young people that are deeply involved in the sport and wish to take it a step further.
Whether it be exploring different possibilities for their future, or simply expanding on their knowledge for the sport, this position is perfect for a motivated youth.
So to cap it off, just a little word of advice for whoever comes next; Be open minded, trust your experience as it is something unique to offer, and don’t be afraid to speak up in what you believe in.”

If you wish to apply, please respond with resume and cover letter to info@karatewestasutralia.com by the 5 February 2024.
