NewsBoard Leadership Update: Chair Appointment and 2026 Committees

Karate Western Australia confirms a change in Board leadership following the December Board meeting held on 5 December 2025, with the appointment of a new Chair.

Appointment of Chair

The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Susheela Rollinson as Chair of Karate Western Australia.

Susheela brings extensive professional experience across finance, governance, and senior management, alongside a strong personal commitment to the sport of karate. She has previously served on the Board and most recently held the role of Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee, working closely with the Committee to strengthen financial systems, reporting, and governance practices.

She is a practising Shotokan karateka, holding a WSKF 3rd Dan, and is actively involved in the sport as a Referee. Her professional background includes financial accounting, reporting, and project accounting, supported by a Bachelor of Business and CPA qualifications, as well as experience within large non-profit organisation in Western Australia.

In accepting the role, Susheela emphasised the importance of strong governance and community connection, stating:

“I am committed to fostering a culture of transparency, ethical leadership, and collaboration. My focus as Chair is to ensure Karate WA continues to operate with integrity, while supporting growth, inclusion, and positive outcomes for our members and the broader karate community.”

The Board looks forward to working under Susheela’s leadership as Karate WA enters the next phase of its strategic direction.

Acknowledgement of Outgoing Chair

The Board formally acknowledges and thanks Tom Pettitt, Elected Director and outgoing Chair, for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service.

Throughout his tenure, Tom guided Karate WA with vision and purpose, helping to strengthen the organisation through a more strategic and forward-focused Board. Under his leadership, significant progress was made in advancing organisational priorities and establishing a clear direction for the future.

In accordance with the Karate WA Constitution (Section 14.3.c), Tom now concludes his service, having completed the maximum term for an Elected Director. The Board extends its sincere appreciation for his commitment, achievements, and the lasting impact of his contribution to Karate WA.

Acknowledgement of Outgoing Board Member

The Board also acknowledges Kristen Jerkovich, Elected Director, for her valued contribution during her term.

Kristen brought extensive knowledge of the State Sporting Association landscape and made a strong contribution to strengthening governance frameworks and supporting the organisation’s strategic direction. Her expertise in regional development, participation, and club development has been particularly valuable in guiding initiatives that build capacity across the state and support growth at all levels of the sport. The Board thanks Kristen for her commitment and the insight and leadership she has provided.
